The Emerging Systems Engineering Technologies Department is
charged with identifying, developing, and applying new technologies
that can address the Government's most challenging Systems
We have an opportunity open for a Software Systems Engineer who
is highly motivated, creative, collaborative, and self-directed.
This position provides challenging opportunities to apply and
expand one’s software engineering, systems engineering, innovation
and analysis skills. Specific areas of interest include Digital
Engineering (DE), Model Based Engineering (MBE, MBSE, MDA, MDD,
MDE), Systems of Systems (SoS), architecture modeling, software
engineering, and analysis of software-intensive systems applying
data analysis techniques.
Developing prototypes and production-ready software using Java,
Python, and related programming languages.
Working within a larger software and systems engineering effort
ensuring that developed software will integrate into overall
architecture and support deployment approval requirements.
Working in a development environment that builds, tests, and
deploys software using Agile processes and DevOps and/or
Working in a development environment that conducts peer reviews
for increased quality and continuous learning of team members
Modeling architectures of complex systems using standards-based
languages (ex. SysML / UML)
Evaluating and comparing alternative architectures using
qualitative and quantitative techniques, applying data analytics
using languages such as Python and R for the latter
Articulating major uncertainties associated with systems
architectures, defining risks and opportunities associated with the
Supporting requirements management, interface management and
architecture change management processes
Translating analysis results into actionable recommendations for
the US Government agencies
Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US
Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science,
Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or relevant technical
5 or more years’ applicable work experience.
Experience with modern software development methods, and
object-oriented programming skills, including one or more of the
following: Java, Python, C++, C#
Familiarity with UML/SysML, and experience with Model Based
Engineering approaches, methods, and techniques, as well as tools
such as Rhapsody, MagicDraw, and Enterprise Architect.
Data Analytics / Data Science skills, including one or more of
the following languages and/or data visualization tools: Python, R,
Familiarity with product lifecycle, trade studies, requirements,
and interface definitions.
Interest in complex multi-disciplinary problems and ability to
work with colleagues across engineering domains.
Ingenuity for applying a set of technical skills across multiple
subject matter fields such as healthcare and defense.
Demonstrated ability to build and shape work and teams through
collaborative and effective partnership
Strong oral/written communication skills.
Strong understanding of full lifecycle development methodology
skills including modern development processes (Agile development,
scrum, DevOps, ALM/PLM).
Experience with SQL databases as well as graph databases such as
Experience building web applications using languages such as
Django and Shiny-R
Understanding of enterprise frameworks, such as Web Services
principles and Service Oriented Architecture (SOAs).
Experience with Internet technologies such as HTTP REST, HTTP
SOAP, AJAX, web services, and related emerging web standards.
Knowledge and experience with XML technology such as XSLT, XML
Schema, and XML Namespaces.
