A variety of technical projects offer a blend of vulnerability discovery as well as secure design. Engineers hired to this position will lead and support projects of national significance. Furthermore, this position offers exciting opportunities to propose and lead internal research and development in the area of embedded security. Qualified candidates will join a multidisciplinary team where continuous learning/teaching and collaboration are key values.Responsibilities include:This position provides exciting opportunities to lead hands-on research, analysis and development of proof-of-concept prototypes to demonstrate and advance the state-of-the-art in embedded security. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Lead teams in planning and executing hands-on security assessments of embedded systems
  • Lead the development of embedded system prototypes to demonstrate new/experimental capabilities
  • Provide embedded security expertise to a diverse customer base and deliver tailored solutions that address their unique problems
  • Lead internal research and development projects to design, implement, and test new tools and techniques for embedded security analysis, assessment, and defense
  • Mentor the next generation of embedded security engineers within our organization and in the community through external engagement with STEM or collegiate programsBasic Qualifications:
    • B.S. degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering or related field, and 8+ years of related experience
    • Must be a US citizen capable of obtaining and maintaining a US government Secret clearanceRequired Qualifications:
      • Experience leading teams developing or evaluating secure embedded systems
      • Expertise and practical experience in software attack and defense to include software vulnerability analysis, software exploit development, and software countermeasures
      • Expertise in reverse engineering software binaries and embedded firmware images using Ghidra (or similar) for embedded processor architectures including ARM
      • Experience developing software in C, C++, and Python
      • Experience with embedded software development for embedded Linux, real-time operating systems, or bare metal applications
      • Excellent oral and written skills for communicating complex subjects to both technical and non-technical audienceExperience/familiarity in at least one of the following areas:
        • Emulating and/or fuzz testing embedded systems and peripherals
        • Symbolic analysis tools (e.g., angr)
        • Hardware reverse engineering techniques for embedded systems such as hardware interface capture and probing, protocol analysis, board-level reverse engineering and modification
        • Secure boot processes and secure bootloader design principlesPreferred Qualifications:Highly-qualified candidates would meet some of the following preferred qualifications, however, we do not expect any individual to meet all of these and are looking to fill multiple roles according to technical expertise.
          • M.S. or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 12+ years of related experience
          • Ability to work with customers to understand their mission, capabilities, and needs and then formulate plans to address those needs
          • Ability to build consensus and partnerships across industry, academia, and customers to advance state of the art in embedded systems security
