New Bedford, MA - Southcoast Health seeks a transformational physician leader to serve as Chair, Department of Anesthesiology. This is an important time for the organization as they realign the anesthesiology department structure from a contracted model to an employed department that will be a new part of Southcoast Physicians Group (SPG).
Southcoast Health is one of the largest health systems in Massachusetts, a not-for-profit organization which was created in 1996, as the result of the merger of St. Luke's Health Care System in New Bedford, MA; Charlton Health System in Fall River, MA; and Tobey Health System in Wareham, MA. Southcoast Health also includes Southcoast Behavioral Health in Dartmouth, MA, which is a joint venture with Acadia Healthcare. The hospitals, which operate under a single license, amounting to 815-beds, provide a full range of primary/secondary services and selected tertiary services such as open-heart surgery.
In this strong community integrated health system, the Chair, Department of Anesthesiology will support a strategic plan that will establish the group as an employed department within the SPG. Southcoast Health enjoys a strong market, geographic and financial position, serving a patient base of all levels of socioeconomic status. It is a physician-friendly health system, where the medical staff and physician enterprise are well supported as they work across three hospitals and an ambulatory footprint.
Defining a common vision for a customer service oriented department of anesthesiology aligned with the objectives of the health system and medical staff, and creating a cohesive culture are keys among the expectations of the new Chair, Department of Anesthesiology. He/she will establish the practice and build a new department after having been supported in the past by contracted anesthesiology groups. He/she will develop a strategic plan and provide overall strategic leadership of the Department and will have responsibility for clinical services, quality, professional performance, financial performance and physician practice.
The new Chair will evaluate the resources in place, oversee recruitment of new providers, develop processes to track, analyze and improve efficiencies and productivity, continuing efforts to develop a high quality, customer-focused Department, where CRNAs and anesthesiologists are involved and engaged in decision-making. The Chair will advance the clinical expertise of the Department, serving as an advocate for the Department, balancing needs of surgeons, Administration and his/her Department's physicians, CRNAs and staff.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a proactive leader to build a Department focused on delivering cutting edge care delivery in a fast paced environment with a long tradition of clinical excellence. Qualified candidates must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school, be board certified in Anesthesiology and eligible for medical licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
