The MITRE Corporation's Resilient Communications Department (N152) supports communication capabilities used by the United States military and International partners across all domains from underwater, to aerial-layer, and space-based. The Resilient Communications Department's focus is on creating and fielding adaptive communications and networking infrastructure needed for successful execution of different mission areas for Operations in Contested Environments (OCE). This involves modernizing fielded communications capabilities in the near/mid-terms and developing/fielding the next generation communications in all phases of systems evolution from concept exploration, through experimentation and development. DoD communications needs pose unique challenges to operate globally in dynamic or denied environments including the effects of electronic warfare. MITRE works hand-in-hand with Government sponsors to serve as technical advisors bringing domain experience and state-of-the-art solutions to solve unique communications challenges. The department's primary areas of concentration are in RF communications, networking, modeling and simulation, system integrations, systems engineering, and software programming.Key Responsibilities:

  • You will work to broaden and focus MITRE's involvement and develop a technology roadmap in military satellite communication solutions. You will lead collaboration efforts across MITRE internal organizations and interface with Government sponsors.
    • You will leverage an understanding of satellite communications to shape the architecture, specification, development, integration, and test strategies of next generation military satellite communications systems across the Air Force Portfolio and other Government sponsors
      • This work will involve understanding commercial satellite market trends and operating concepts, and advising Government on how these can be applied to next generation communications architectures
        • You will lead working groups or studies covering multiple engineering domains with a diverse team, creating timely and actionable recommendations to shape DoD strategy, and interfacing and collaborating across multiple stakeholders to create optimized solutions to national problemsMinimum Qualifications:
          • BS in engineering discipline and 10 years of relevant experience
          • 2 years of leadership experienceRequired Qualifications
            • BS with 15+ years relevant experience
            • You are familiar with satellite communication (SATCOM) system architecture and design
            • You have an understanding of the current state of technology in areas such as: small-satellites, commercial satellite services, RF design, antenna design, networking, terminals, gateways, etc.
            • You have strong interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively lead collaboration efforts across multiple organizations and engineering disciplines
            • You have experience working with open standards, architectures, and protocols.
            • Candidate must possess an active secret clearance with an ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearancePreferred Qualifications:
              • MS, or PhD in engineering disciple with 15+ years relevant experience
              • Familiarity with one or more SATCOM systems to include: emerging commercial SATCOM, military SATCOM, and/or wideband SATCOM
              • Experience with modeling and simulation of satellite communications and networking, utilizing tools such as: MATLAB, AFSIM, STK, etc.This requisition requires the candidate to have a minimum of the following clearance(s):SecretThis requisition requires the hired candidate to have or obtain, within one year from the date of hire, the following clearance(s):Top Secret/SCIMITRE requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
